3D Treatment Planning
3D Treatment Planning
Before any appliance is placed, careful planning helps map out how a bite and jaw alignment can shift over time. At KHL Orthodontics LLC in Northvale, NJ, 3D treatment planning uses digital imaging to build a simulation of care, so patients can see a preview of expected movement before treatment begins.
How the Simulation Comes Together
Planning starts with the imaging already used for diagnosis. Combining these views gives a fuller picture of the jaw, roots, and profile than any single image alone.
- Digital Panoramic X-Ray — maps the full jaw and root structure to support planning.
- Cephalometric Imaging — a side-profile skeletal view used to assess bite and jaw alignment.
- Digital Impression Scanning — bite-free scans capture current arch positions for the simulation.
Who Reviews the Plan
Dr. Kristine M. Hyon, DMD, MS, completed orthodontic residency training and reviews the 3D simulation to shape a course of treatment suited to each patient's bite and jaw structure.
When It's Used
3D treatment planning is typically introduced at the start of care, whether the plan involves appliances, expanders, or other approaches, giving patients and families a clearer sense of what lies ahead.
