Cone Beam CT
Cone Beam CT
Cone beam CT is a type of x-ray that creates a three-dimensional image of the teeth, roots, jaws and surrounding structures. A single scan rotates around the head and captures views that flat x-rays cannot.
When it is useful
- Impacted teeth — locating a tooth that has not come in and planning how to guide it.
- Root and bone detail — checking root position and bone support before moving teeth.
- Complex cases — extra detail for jaw and airway evaluation when needed.
Used when it adds value
Not every patient needs a 3D scan. Dr. Hyon recommends one only when the added detail will help plan treatment safely.
