What kind of braces is right for me?
Our Northvale, NJ, Ridgefield, NJ, and New York, NY, locations offer metal, clear and lingual braces. Each is effective in permanently straightening the teeth of tweens, teens or adults, and is designed to be comfortable. Here is what makes each form unique:
- Metal: Metal braces are the most common, with traditional silver-colored brackets and wires. The brackets are smaller than in older versions for a lighter feel. You can opt for clear rubber bands, which wrap around the brackets, for a more discreet look, or choose from a variety of colors to show off your personality and style.
- Clear: Clear braces use brackets that blend in with the hue of your teeth so they are less visible. These versions are a bit more expensive than traditional braces but are a more inconspicuous option.
- Lingual: For a truly invisible option, consider lingual braces, which attach to the back of the teeth. The brackets have a smooth metal surface so there is no friction against your gums and tongue.
On average, you can expect to wear your braces for 18 months to three years to achieve full straightening results. Your orthodontist may fit you with a retainer to wear for a period after your braces are removed to keep the teeth from shifting.
